ALFRED HITCHCOCK ON 3 THEORIES OF FILM EDITING - for student response before class
Here is a 7 minute interview with Alfred Hitchcock in which he talks about three types of editing. He applies the first two to his very famous film, Psycho. What type of editing techniques do you feel he uses in Rear Window, and why?
Hitchcock used juxtaposition at the scene of murder in Rear Window too. The film does not show the exact scene of murder, but we can know it is murdering through the screaming of the woman. Furthermore, the editing of suspicious behavior of Thornwald makes us think it is murder.

ReplyDeleteIN Greek tragedy, that's called offstage action. Sometimes it's more gruesome to not see it, and to just imagine it.
